Features To Look For When Buying A Digital Camera
Digital Cameras and SLR Professional cameras.
If you want a decent camera that you will use to take pictures within the family, holiday pictures or simply even taking pictures of items to list on eBay, then a digital camera is for you. It is small, compact and at just the right price range for the average man/woman.
If you are in the media however, a professional photographer or take up photography as a hobby, SLR Professional cameras are for you. These are much bigger, better in quality but far more expensive than your average digital camera on the high street.
What to look for when choosing the right camera for you:
I have just differentiated the two major types of camera, but what do you want to look out for to suit your needs. In the following text, you will be able to figure out the right type of camera for yourself.
PIXEL RESOLUTION:
Pixels are actually tiny dots on a digital image that make up the picture. Basically, the higher the number of pixels in your image, the better the quality. This is because the camera is able to fit more detail into the image since there is a higher spacial capacity for the pixels to fit into. This will also enable you to enlarge your image to higher pixel dimensions without creating a pixelated image (when the image is enlarged to a point that the pixels cannot fit into each allotted space so it becomes blurry). For people using digital cameras 4-7MP cameras would be a reasonably good size of Megapixels. However for SLR Professional cameras you'd be looking at about 10MP+. Obviously the more megapixels in a camera, the higher the cost.
LCD SCREEN:
The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen allows the photographer to view the picture he/she has taken straight away to check if the picture needs to be retaken. It also acts as a viewfinder for the photographer so they don't have to look through the actual viewfinder. For a digital camera, they vary from 1.5-2.5 inches but on a SLR Professional they usually start from 2.5 inches and the screen size increases.
OPTICAL ZOOM:
This enables the photographer to zoom in on an object without any loss of picture quality. Depending on the magnification number, you can zoom in more. For a digital camera, the optical zoom is on average 3.0-5.0 (odd cases of special digital cameras have an optical zoom of 6.0-10.0, but are in the region of £350). SLR Professional cameras go from 6.0+.
DIGITAL ZOOM:
This feature enables the photographer to zoom in on the centre of the picture removing the edges of the image (on PC). However, depending on the MP resolution of your camera, the image can become fuzzy so be careful. Digital cameras can easily vary on average from 2.0-8.0 and the same range for the SLR Professionals, except some will exceed 8.0. The higher the zoom the better the camera.
AUDIO & MOVIE CAPTURE:
This allows you to record sounds and moving images at the same time, in exactly the same way as a camcorder does. Some cameras even contain a facility that enables them to play the video footage on TV from the camera, so all can watch in a better picture quality. This comes both on digital and SLR Professional cameras.
IMAGE STABILISATION:
This feature enables the photographer to capture still images of something moving very fast, such as a cheetah. The camera is able to freeze the picture within those milliseconds of time to create a clear quality picture image. You can also use this feature in low light conditions. Both types of camera usually have this feature.
MEMORY:
Cameras either have internal memory, memory card slots or both. Different cameras have different sizes of internal memory and are able to use different types of memory cards. The types of memory cards are important because this will tell you what type of memory card is need to expand on the existing internal memory. Digital and SLR Professional cameras contain between 8-96MB of internal memory but the memory cards that you can buy to expand the memory capacity vary between 16MB-2GB(2048MB).
PRINTING:
Nowadays you can buy special printers, depending on the compatibility of your camera, to print off your pictures without connecting it to a PC. This applies both for digital and SLR Professional cameras.

Making Money with a Digital Camera
Everybody else please read the article below.
So you want to know how to make money with a digital camera? Let me tell you about my Uncle Pete. Not only does he make money but he has his own digital photography business. And he started it just a couple of years ago in his late fifties. He loves it so much that he is like a little kid again.
He started making money with a digital camera by selling his photos to stock agencies online. He found out exactly what were the best selling photographs these agencies sold and then he went out took those types of pictures. He was making a few extra grand a month. But this wasn't enough for him. Not with his new found youthfulness.
He decided to go into the digital wedding photography business. He wasn't sure if there was a market share for him so he decided to do it on the cheap. He got on his computer and made inexpensive flyers that simply said:
Uncle Pete - Wedding Photographer
For the best photos and best rates
Call Uncle Pete.
(And below his name he put his phone number.)
That was it. Then he paid a couple of high school students to deliver them door to door. He also plastered these flyers on every community bulletin board he could find - laundromats, grocery stores, community centers etc.
After he got his first few digital wedding photography jobs he expanded his marketing and advertising. He began advertising in the different local community newspapers. These usually come out once a month and a single ad costs about 25 to 30 dollars.
Before my uncle realized what happened his whole spring and summer were booked with weddings. He couldn't believe all the work he had. He had to hire an assistant.
And not only that, but the quality of his work was so good that through word of mouth of his customers that he will be booked for weddings for the next 2 to 3 years even if he didn't advertise anymore.
My Uncle Pete has told me that it has never been better making money with a digital camera than now. There are so many different ways - stock photography, weddings, real estate photography, portraits, travel, greeting cards, websites - the list just goes on and on.
But my Uncle Pete did give me one piece of advice that he said was important. He told me - start small but think big.

Digital photography history
There is a saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. This is very true but to get this thousand word picture you need really high quality cameras or digital cameras. While many of us take for granted the presence of digital cameras and the many marvelous things that they can do we have forgotten the history of digital photography.
This history of digital photography is not that long but the events that took place have changed the way that we take our photographs.
In 1969 October 17th George Smith and Willard Boyle invented the charge coupled device or the CCD as we know it. This device was originally made for use in computers as a semi-conductor memory. These inventors of the CCD were also thinking about ways to incorporate their device into video phones.
With all of their plans and sketches finalized Smith and Boyle finally built the CCD into the world's first CCD camera. This changed the history of digital photography altogether.
The camera that was built by them was a solid state video camera. During 1975 the CCD camera with its image sharp pictures was shown on television for the first time. The image that was shown was clear enough to be seen by the viewers of television.
In the history of digital photography the first prototype of the digital camera was created by Sony in1981. This digital camera was called Mavica which meant Magnetic Video Camera. The Sony Mavica was essentially a video camera that was used to capture video freeze-frames.
In 1986 Kodak scientists invented the first megapixel senor. This senor was capable of recording 1.4 million pixels. These were capable of producing a 5 x 7 inch digital photo quality print. In 1987 Kodak released 7 products that had the ability to manipulate digital images.
In 1991 Kodak in partnership with Nikon, released the Nikon F-3 camera. This camera was equipped with a 1.3 megapixel sensor by Kodak. This shows how the history of digital photography merged scientific know-how to produce a digital camera.
At about this same time Logitech produced and released their Dycam model with black and white images. Apple produced a digital camera that could transfer images to the computer from the camera.
This is the short version of the history of digital photography. Today 30 years after the first digital camera was produced and released digital photography has changed our lives. The next time that you buy a digital camera you might want to see what other information you can find out about the history of digital photography.

The Art of Digital Photography Lighting
The Light Sources
The good light sources are natural light sources. The sun and the moon are considered to be the best ones. The artificial light sources include the photoflash, the bulb, the halogen lamp as well as some other sources. Special photography studios contain more advanced lights, but they are not necessary unless you are a hi-level professional.
There are various types of digital photography lighting, but the most common are diffused lighting and directional lighting. Diffused light coming from the sides is produced by the sun in the early morning and the late afternoon. Alternatively, it can be simulated by using an umbrella reflector. Direct light can be produced by flash or tungsten.
Light can come from the top, front, back or side. Front lighting is commonly used by photographers, but it often results in unexciting and flat photos. Back and side lighting produce a better effect, especially being combined with each other. The strength of light is also an important thing.
Digital Photography Lighting Specificity
As a rule, digital cameras have a wide set of lighting presets, which can help the photographer to take quality shots in different lighting conditions. Most digital cameras also provide automatic settings for white balancing. There could be various options like daylight, cloudy, tungsten and more. These adjustments can be set to compensate for any given light source so that white objects appear true white in the photo.
Overall, the digital cameras provide us with powerful tool of lighting adjustment. However, making an excellent lighted shoot is always a challenge.
How to Manage Lighting
Photographer can employ and combine different kind of light sources and digital photography lighting presets. There're some common rules on how to manage lighting. For example, it is well known that portraits look best when taken in diffused lighting, whereas top lighting results in sharp contrast of light and shadows. Landscapes look good in soft light, whereas it is better to use bright light when captivating the wildlife.
One of the main advantages of digital photography is that you can experiment with the picture without any additional expenses on film and processing. Following the trial and error method, just try playing with your camera and make the best of it.

How To Earn Money as a Freelance Photographer
In today's busy world of demands, long work days and juggling a family and career, the freedom of being self-employed is priceless. With a digital camera and internet access, you fit work into your day on your terms. Work in your pajamas if you want to! And no more hustling home after a busy day to haul the kids to practice and grab a fast-food dinner on the go.
Just turn every day into an opportunity. Keep your camera close at hand and be ready to snap at anything. If you are a parent, you're well aware that children go from cute to silly to crazy without warning, and these uncensored moments are often the most successful kid pics captured. Along with playtime, it's easy to turn any school, sport or social event into a fun photo op.
Even if there doesn't seem to be anything interesting going on, take a closer look. Go for a walk or follow the pets around. Try to find a photo in the most ordinary places. Turn chores, errands and your most mundane tasks into income. Next time you walk the dog, for instance, snap shots of a beautiful, snow-covered barn or sparrow bathing in a mud puddle. Chances are, if something sparks your interest, others will find it interesting as well. So keep your eyes peeled and camera ready!
All you have to do to create a demand for your work is find your vision. Remember that there are a lot of photographers out there, but no one sees the world through your eyes. The things that you discover drama or beauty in are different from what others find. So capture that difference, it will be the thing that sets your work apart from every other pretty sunset or fluffy kitten in the world. It isn't lighting or contrast that sells pictures, but rather things like mood, emotion and sensation. These are invisible to naked eye but shine through a good photo like a melody in the background, and they can't be duplicated.

Photos: why do we take them?
Auntie had the right idea. She wanted to memorialize every event. It didn't matter if the developed film never made it out of the card board envelopes. What was important is that she enjoyed taking photos. Amateur photographers everywhere are still snapping pictures as a favorite pastime.
Photography is a good means to chronicle someone's life. A picture tells a thousand words, so what an excellent way to document special moments, highlights and milestones. Over time, our memory isn't as iron-clad as it once was. With photographs you can still recall the special moment even when the memory fades.
Photography is good for your well being. Reflect on all the studies that talk about how beneficial laughter is to your health. Now consider your emotions when you see photos of a new baby, or a wedding, or any of the other adorable photos that are found in email in-boxes on a daily basis. They make you happy! Photos elicit positive emotions.
Think about the people who were in south Texas during the winter of 2004. I'm sure they were happy to be down there when they had snow for the first time in over 100 years. There were people outside taking pictures at midnight; what an opportunity!
Have you ever seen deer on the side of the road? Not too many bucks will stop long enough to be photographed. If you're fortunate enough to see sitting deer, you better hope to have a camera with you; as they likely won't be sitting there waiting for you the next time you drive by.
While some people still prefer film cameras, digital cameras now come in any size or budget. For the novice photographer who merely enjoys taking photographs as a way to relax or capture those one of a kind moments, suitable digital cameras are available for under $100.
Some people are still using 1.3 mega pixel digital cameras. By today's standard, that is considered a dinosaur. However it would still work if the photographer just wanted to take an occasional photo to list items for sale on eBay. Today many amateur photographers are using digital cameras with 4-6 mega pixels.
As a rule of thumb, the higher the mega pixel, the higher the price tag. Notwithstanding, higher mega pixel cameras also come with more bells and whistles and have a higher resolution. Most all digital cameras also have a timer and ability to make very small movie clips. Many also have zoom lens features.
With digital photography it is fun to play around with new technology. Create a screen saver of your best photo with ImageBox from CoolUtils. If you came back from Hawaii and have lots of great photos that you want not to just show to your friends but amaze them - make an astonishing slideshow. Imagine all pictures will be shown one by one with different effects, accompanied by music and your comments. With ImageBox every photo stops being a snapshot but becomes a living part of the presentation. Your friends will be amazed! Don't think about how difficult it is - you will create your first slideshow in 6 minutes.
There are software programs that allow you to make digital images look better than real life by removing unwanted blemishes, moles, or wrinkles. Experiment with the software to add or remove people or objects from the photo. New technology provides the ability to alter a photograph so that it looks like an oil painting, pencil sketch, negative, sepia, black and white, charcoal drawing and a plethora of other options.
While it is possible to make a living as a photographer, the majority of camera users simply take photos because they enjoy it. It's true that time will not stand still. The taunting school aged children had it right when they responded to stares, "Take a picture why don't you - it'll last longer!"
Now you do the same - stop reading and go take a picture... it'll last longer!

Photography As a Hobby
Now photography is a big part of our culture, something that everyone recognizes. Most everyone has family photos lying around their house, many people take these photos on a regular basis, preserving precious memories for years to come. But you can find beautiful landscapes right where you live. That¡¯s the great thing about nature, it¡¯s everywhere, and landscapes are everywhere.
The earlier model did not contain the film; instead, it had a small light- shield box with lens and translucent screen on either side. The image that traveled through the lens was stored on the screen. Known as 'camera obscura,' it was no more than a sketching device for artists.
There are different ways of finding photography jobs, depending on the type of job you are looking for and your experience. You can begin by creating a resume and portfolio of your work.
Photography As a Hobby
Photography is considered as one of the rare hobbies that you can easily learn. Some may think that there's a trick in taking great shots. However, there are certain elements that you need to consider in order to enjoy the hobby of capturing wonderful pictures. With the exception of video cameras, there is nothing greater than capturing precious moments in photographs. They preserve those moments you are part of. You may enjoy those memories captured with your family, friends, and events and you can even share it with them.
To enjoy this hobby, you need to first learn the skills and techniques of photography. You can undertake training in technical skills to master the art of capturing photographs. You also need to consider acquiring different materials you will need to enjoy this wonderful hobby. Here are some beginner tips for learning photography.
1. Get to know what interests you. Focus yourself on a particular topic so that you can fully understand your chosen subject. It is important to have full knowledge on the subjects you want to photograph.
2. You may invest in a self-focusing SLR with the newest features with all the whistles and bells. You may also get an automatic focus camera that can read details on every captured subject.
Photojournalism takes pictures of events to support the news story and to create awareness among the people.
There are some excellent photography contests out there, some even offer large cash prizes, scholarships to photography schools and really nice cameras and camera supplies.
Do you like to take photos? Are you always standing by with your camera waiting for that moment that is meant to be captured on camera? You may even be taking photography classes or maybe you have already completed a photography course and you want to share your photos with others.
A macro lens will also allow you to take unique abstract images. By using a wide aperture with a macro lens on natural shapes can create the perfect abstract image. There is a wide world of photography. It touches each of us in our lives on a daily basis in some form or another. Photography is so much a part of our culture now that we hardly even notice all the places that it exists.
3. If you choose to venture into nature photography, it is important to consider the location of shots. Make sure to that sunlight will not affect any of your shots. Position yourself behind the sun so that it will be use for lighting to create clearer shots.
4. Practice taking photos in your home or in your backyard. You can capture images that are not within your subject. Sometimes you may even create great shots on unexpected and unplanned moments.
5. It is advised to take photos steadily using a tripod. You can produce great images when you use the right angles. It is very important to pay attention to the size, shape and position of the subject .
6. When there is no available sunlight on the subject, you must have artificial lighting to support the brightness and color of the photograph. Although the camera has a flash, it is sometimes insufficient in supplying the needed light in creating a clear image.
These are only some guides for you to enjoy photography as a hobby. You may enjoy capturing images as long as you have the right materials and good technical skills. Many believe that beginners taking photography as a hobby can end up professional photographers.
You can go locally and look for internships or local firms or companies that may need photographers. You can get the word out by doing small events such as birthday parties and such.
Underwater photography is as the name implies photos that are taken under water. This is pretty interesting since early cameras could not function if wet. But as people started discovering the wonders under the sea, they wanted to be able to share that with others or even just to prove what they actually saw. You will then want to check for any fine print and be sure you agree with the terms. For example, some contests have rules about copyright and you give up copyright by submitting, others ask for print to publish ¨C even if you don¡¯t win, and without notifying you. If you do not agree to the terms of the contest, you should not enter. More on Malaysia Photographer.
Another digital photography beauty is the ability to shoot your people or events and view them ON THE SPOT! This can be done either through your digital camera¡¯s viewfinder or by loading onto your computer. When you are shooting special events in your life this is a real plus. Compare the look of the photos from each photographer with one another. If you find two that seem to be of similar quality but with vastly different prices, then the decision is easy. Obviously the less costly photographer can do the same or similar work for less.

How to Find Quality Cameras and Lenses Online
However, there are limitations with those cameras in the control of exposure and focusing. For someone who is more involved in amateur photography, added manual control may be beneficial. One of the biggest advantages is the ability to change lenses to get a better zoom picture. Sporting events and vacation photos will be more pleasing to look at when taken with the right types of lenses. The serious and professional photographers will want the best cameras with the features that suit their needs. This would include manual focus to give the clearest and sharpest pictures. Also, there are several different size lenses to get a good picture from a greater distance. Different Camera Styles There are basically four different kinds of cameras to choose from. The first, usually cheapest and easiest to handle, is the point and shoot.
The second is the 35mm SLR that allows more variety in lenses and focus. The third is the Medium Format, which is larger and gives a larger negative to work with. It is completely manual but supplies a high-quality photograph. The fourth is the Large Format camera used by the professionals. It is larger and harder to use but provides stunning photographs from the larger size prints. Shop Online for Cameras and Lenses When you have decided the type of camera you need, you are ready to shop online. To get started, you simply type in your key words on a search engine. Once you know what you are looking for the task will be much simpler. There are many sites that offer cameras at wholesale or discount prices. They usually offer all the well-known brands such as Leica, Minolta, Canon, Horizon, Contax, Olympus, Mamiya, Nikon, Hasselblad, Pentax, and Noblex. Some sites sell used products that have been gently used or refurbished.
Purchasing these cameras would save you some money and will usually still come with a warranty. There are sites with online catalogs where you can look for the brand or style you want. They also provide search features so you can shop by key word or brand name. Compare Before Buying It is a good idea to shop around and compare prices and shipping costs before buying a camera. Remember to include the shipping costs when calculating the total price of a camera or lenses. Don't buy a camera at a discount price just because it is a good deal. To be sure you are satisfied with your purchase, look for the key features and quality you want. Buy a camera based on your needs and you'll enjoy taking fabulous photographs with it for years to come!

Portrait Photography Tips
Photographing people is the most popular form of photography today. Everyone takes shots of family and friends, but the majority of portraits end up poorly exposed, out of focus, and in the trash can..
A successful portrait photograph should capture a person's character and reveal something about their personality. A good portrait must be exposed correctly, with warm skin tone colours. The focal point of a good portrait image should be the eyes. This is the area of the face you must focus on accurately.
The eyes must be one hundred percent sharp to draw the viewer into the image. By choosing an aperture of F/8 or smaller and shooting at least three feet away from the subject you should create a depth-of-field to bring all parts of the face into good focus.
If you have a keen interest in portrait photography the potential to earn some extra cash or even set up your own studio is endless.
The equipment needed to get successful portrait images is basic. A standard 35mm camera is perfect. Cameras that use film are better than digital; portrait film allows you capture warmer skin tones. Digital cameras have their own advantage but the cost of having an up-to-date digital darkroom can be immense.
Once you have chosen your camera the next piece of equipment you need is a lens; lenses should have a focal length of between 85 mm and 135mm. They also permit you to fill the frame from a reasonable distance and help reduce perspective distortion, which I will cover in more detail in part 3.
Here is a list of equipment worth considering:
Exposure meter - this will help in calculating exposure
Cable release - is used to minimise camera movement
Studio lights - one studio light will do, but if you have more the effects can be a lot greater.
Reflector - this will be used to bounce light.
Now that you have your equipment, your next step is dealing with people.
Most people become tense in front of the camera - this is natural and the job of a portrait photographer is to make sure this doesn't affect the final print. A tense subject will lead to a poor dull image that no one will want to buy.
The key to creating a good portrait is having a relaxed subject - this may be achieved by talking to the subject while shooting the portrait. If this doesn't work play some music - people react to different kinds of things. Psychology plays an important part in the work of a portrait photographer and the younger the subject the harder it is to get a result.
